ALTHEIM
H-hour for the 3rd Division's plunge toward the German border was 0100, March 15, which began with a six-hour artillery barrage. The division was assembled in Etting, Schmittviller and Bining with all divisional symbols and vehicle unit identification covered. Here the village of Altheim shows the scars of the 3rd Division advance toward Hornbach. The damaged building on the right is the Church of St. Andreas. Altheim was captured March 17 by the 7th Regiment after a midnight attack.
