CIVATAVECCHIA
As events played out, the 3rd Division's garrison status in Rome was short lived.
On June 13, the division was ordered to begin a move that would eventually bring them to Naples where they would join a force assembling for Operation Dragoon: the invasion of southern France. The short rest in Rome did allow many GIs the chance to take in the sights including a short jaunt to Civatavecchia to mull over the wreckage of the captured guns known as "Anzio Annie".
Here is seen a soldier comparing a helmet to the barrel on the rail gun "Leopold".
