ANZIO - NETTUNO
Resistance to the initial landings was light and reconnaissance showed the route to Rome, about 40 miles away, was nearly undefended. The most damaging opposition throughout the beachhead was from artillery and sporadic Luftwaffe bombings. These vehicles were hit along the Anzio-Nettuno waterfront.
