NETTUNO
The 3rd Division's landing zone was south of Anzio-Nettuno on a 15-mile stretch of open, unpopulated beachfront. The British landing zone was north of Anzio while U.S. Ranger battalions and parachute regiments were tasked with securing the two ports with the 45th Division and a special regiment of the 1st Armored Division as the second wave. This photograph was taken on D-Day, January 22, 1944.
