POZZUOLI, ITALY 1944
3rd Infantry Division Clubmobile
The 3rd Division was ordered to Pozzuoli, Italy in mid-July 1944 as part of the force assembling for the invasion of southern France. The Clubmobile crew visited several of the 3rd Division's supporting units until the invasion force departed for southern France on August 8.
Here the 3rd Division Clubmobile crew (Flo, Dottie and, Jingles are visible), along with the soldiers assigned to the doughnut operation, have set up a tent with a sign reading "Chestnut Room - No Cover Charge" to comfort the 803rd Ordnance Company bivouacked in Pozzuoli. The American Red Cross ran the Clubmobile program with a training program in Washington D.C. The popularity of the program attracted both men and women who either served as a volunteer or in a number of paid positions.
