William J. Toomey
Bill Toomey in Salzburg, Austria, June 1945. On the left shoulder is the French Fourragere representing the 3rd Division's recognition for action in France. Bill also wore the Combat Infantry Badge for action with the 3rd Reconnaissance Troop in Italy. He, Bill Heller and Bobby Seesock were awarded a Bronze Star in August 1945 by Brig. Gen. William T. Sexton for their photographic work in France and Germany. The award rightfully should have been extended to Jack Cole and Howard Nickelson who had already returned
to the United States.
