U.S. RIVIERA RECREATIONAL AREA - Antibbes
Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc on the French Riviera was built in 1869 as a private mansion and opened as a hotel in 1887. As a first class resort for affluent society, it only accepted cash from guests until 2006. Its illustrious history includes guests F. Scott Fitzgerald (immortalized as the Hotel des Etrangers in Tender Is the Night), Ernest Hemingway, Marc Chagall, The Kennedy family (in 1938 when John F. Kennedy was 21 years old, Marlene Dietrich, Orson Welles, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Winston Churchill and Charles De Gaulle. Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton conducted an affair and honeymooned there. It is particularly popular during the annual Cannes Film Festival. The sign in front declares it off limits to guests of the nearby Edon Roc Pavillion.
