Operation Dragoon 1944

Invasion map showing Alpha, Delta, and Camel zones with the airdrop at Le Muy marked above the center. The invasion was announced with a naval bombardment of Marseiiles beginning at 2330 on August 14. Airdrops of dummy paratroopers and tinfoil plus a PT boat flotilla off Cannes led by Lt. Cmdr. Douglas E. Fairbanks were part of the diversions before the landing areas, under heavy fog with 50 yards of visibility, were shelled at sunrise.
