POZZUOLI

The 3rd Division was assembled at Pozzuoli in July 1944 joining the 36th and 45th infantry divisions as the primary VI Corps force for Operation Dragoon under the Seventh Army. All three divisions had taken part in the Anzio action and the drive to Rome as part of the Fifth Army. The 3rd Division trained in Pozzuoli and the 45th and 36th divisions trained at the Seventh Army Invasion Center near Salerno.
