AIX-EN-PROVENCE The Place de la Rotunde, marking the location of the old city gates of Aix-en-Provence, is the setting for an Allied procession of victorious troops on August 22, 1944. This 41st Field Artillery jeep is turning east on the Avenue Napoleon Bonaparte. All three VI Corps divisions quickly covered their landing objectives while rapidly advancing into the French countryside. At this time the 36th Division was as far as the Drome River near Crest and the 45th had advanced as far as Grenoble on the right flank. location: 43°31'35.6"N 5°26'41.6"E photo: dogfacesoldiers collection
