BRIGNOLES

With the St. Tropez beaches under control, elements of the 3rd Division rapidly advanced 35 miles to Brignoles. Looking southwest on the corner of Rue Louis Maitre and Rue de la Republique, this fighter sits for the photographer. As in other towns and cities during the advance, French resistance proved invaluable in securing territory. The landings in southern France inspired major uprisings in Lyon and Paris that was liberated on August 24, 1944.
