POZZUOLI, ITALY 1944
3rd Infantry Division Clubmobile

Lining up in Pozzuoli for coffee and doughnuts.

The preparations for the southern France invasion continued and in northern France, the Clubmobiles from Great Britain had been crossing the Normandy beaches since mid-July.

Ten Clubmobile groups (designated by letters) with eight Clubmobiles per group were sent into France in July after the Normandy invasion. Converted two-and-a-half ton GMC trucks, built to withstand rough roads and battlefield conditions were lengthened and fitted with mini-kitchens. Clubmobile Group B was the first to land and were in operation 24 hours later. The Clubmobiles traveled with the rear echelon of the Army Corps and received orders from the Army command. As the war progressed, most of the original groups were split to cover a wider area.
