Received DSC for action on March 30, 1945 near Gross Heuback, Germany when his company was halted on an open plain by enemy action, he dashed forward in a reckless solo assault on the enemy force, sprinting 95 yards where he knocked out a four-man machine gun crew with BA.R. fire, yanked nine Germans from their foxholes and crawled 40 yards to strike a German strongpoint, killing or capturing a total of twenty-six enemy infantrymen.
