ROME As a declared open city, Rome escaped serious destruction during the Italian campaign. Here, is seen the Castel Sant'Angelo on the north side of the Tiber River with the Ponte Sant'Angelo from the Ponte Vittorio Emanuele II. It was commissioned by Roman Emperor Hadrian as a mausoleum for himself and his family. The bridge and mausoleum were built from AD 134 to 139.
