Although the 3rd Division's push to Valmontone did not achieve the goal of trapping the fleeing German 10th Army due to General Clarke's decision to have American troops liberate Rome, it did hasten the fall of Rome where the citizenry welcomed their liberators on June 4, 1944, just two days before the Normandy landings.
