ROME

Rome was the first capital to be liberated from German occupation on 4 June 1944. Rome had been declared an open city, thusly, captured without any fighting. Here is seen the ruins of the Roman Forum with the Tempio di Saturno in the foreground. The tower in the background is Basilica di Santa Francesca Romana with the Coliseum behind it.
