ANZIO BEACHHEAD

With a loss in confidence with VI Corps commander General Lucas, 15th Army Group passed the order through Gen. Clark's Fifth Army to change the command at Anzio. The 3rd Division commander, Maj. Gen. Lucian Truscott assumed VI Corps command on Feb. 17 and 3rd Division command was handed to its assistant commander, Brig. Gen. John W. O'Daniel. O'Daniel, known as a forward-leaning commander, is seen here in his command post within mortar range of the front line.
